CBE
Applying knowledge from the physical, chemical, material, and life sciences, chemical and biological engineers create and innovate new products and processes in a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and safe manner. Their skills range from engineering matter at the molecular level to managing large-scale systems in various industries and are highly sought-after for addressing critical global challenges related to energy, the environment, climate change, water availability, and healthcare. DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING
Program Details
BEng in BIOENGINEERING Bioengineering combines both engineering and the life sciences. Bioengineers use engineering principles and the power of biology to tackle healthcare challenges and improve human health. They also address challenges in other areas such as mitigating energy shortages, improving food and water security, preventing environmental pollution, and supporting an ageing population. The bioengineering program includes a foundation of mathematics and sciences specially designed for bioengineers and is structured along two areas of specialization, with students focusing on either data- or molecular-oriented elective courses. Graduates will find employment in biotechnology and healthcare-related industries and can become innovative scientists and entrepreneurs.
BEng in CHEMICAL ENGINEERING Chemical engineering applies the principles of physical, chemical and life sciences to design, improve, and innovate chemical products and processes. Students learn how to design a manufacturing plant; transform raw materials into valuable products; purify products to meet market demands; ensure high quality standards; automate the plant to make production safer and cost-effective; minimize waste and prevent pollution; translate consumer needs into innovative products; and effectively design and operate equipment found in chemical industries.
BEng in ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING This program equips graduates with the skills needed to design and operate processes in the energy and environmental industries. Students delve into both energy engineering (generation, transfer, conversion, storage, sustainability, and policy) and environmental engineering (pollution control, waste management, and environmental impact analysis). The program cultivates skilled professionals capable of developing sustainable solutions to meet the global demand for energy and environmental conservation. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in government and private sectors related to energy and environment.
