NON-CHINESE SPEAKING STUDENTS: Students meeting specified circumstances set out by EDB may use alternative Chinese (i.e. Grade E/Grade 2 or above in a GCSE/IGCSE/GCE Chinese Language subject), HKDSE Other Language Subject (Grade E or above) or HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese subject (Attained or above) to satisfy the University’s Chinese language requirement.
The specified circumstances are: a) Students who have learned Chinese Language for less than 6 years while receiving primary and secondary education; or b) Students who have learned Chinese Language for 6 years or more in schools, but have been taught an adapted and simpler curriculum, not normally applicable to the majority of students in local schools.
At HKUST, we provide you with the flexibility to choose your programs. While you can directly apply to some of the programs at the application stage, you may apply to the School of Science, School of Engineering, or School of Business and Management first and decide on your major at the end of the first two or three semesters. WE ARE FLEXIBLE AND INTERDISCIPLINARY
Apart from the major programs from an individual School, you can also enroll in joint programs, interdisciplinary programs, extended majors and minor programs.

Cross-disciplinary Programs With four Schools and an Interdisciplinary Programs Office, HKUST offers undergraduate programs in Science, Engineering, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Science as well as cross- disciplinary areas.
Broad-based Curriculum Students can expand their intellectual horizons in a diverse set of subjects while gaining specific skills and knowledge in their chosen area of specialty.
EXTENDED MAJORS Blending traditional programs with emerging hot topics, the extended majors allow students to graduate with a title bearing both the selected traditional major and the extended major, all within their normal duration of study.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) A cross-disciplinary and practical program that offers solid knowledge in your major plus innovative application of AI in your major areas.
DIGITAL MEDIA AND CREATIVE ARTS (DMCA)
Integrate creative arts and digital media in the world of rapidly changing technologies. Students can study the two areas in an interdisciplinary program framework.
